Because pulses can be sent to mobile phones, the length of a pulse is limited to 146 characters subtracted from the length of your username.

For example:
If your username is Dan, the maximum length of a pulse is 143 characters.
If your username is DanIsAwesome, the maximum length of a pulse would be 134 characters.
