This rating applies to sites that are appropriate for all ages.  The overall theme and language are appropriate for younger children, and there is minimal offensive material involving nudity, sex, violence or drugs.

This rating applies to site which contain some material which may not be suitable for young children.  Parents are encouraged to evaluate the material, before allowing their children to view it.  There may be some mild profanity, some violence, and some small amount of nudity in a B rated site.  There is absolutely no content about using drugs illegally.

This rating applies to sites which may be inappropriate for children under the age of 13.  While Xanga members themselves are required to be over the age of 13, not all content on Xanga requires an account to view.  This rating exists to help parents determine if a site is suitable for their children under 13.

A site rated C for Caution stands well above a site rated B, but below the restricted rating of D: Discretion Required.  The content in a C rated site may contain some profanity, including stronger language derived from sexual or excretory activities and organs.  This language may be used as an expletive, but not in a sexual context.  Nudity may appear in a C-rated site, if used in a non-sexual context.  Limited depictions of violence are acceptable, as long as they are not too graphic and prolonged.  Any mention of illegal drug use will require a C rating.

Parents are encouraged to learn more before allowing their children to view C-rated content.

This rating applies to sites that require parent or legal guardian approval for minors under the age of 18.  The overall theme of a D-rated site decidedly contains some material appropriate only for adults.  The nature of language, nudity, sensuality, illegal drug abuse, or violence are generally considered strong enough that parent or legal guardian approval is required before a minor under the age of 18 can view D-rated content.

This ratings applies to sites that are appropriate only for adults; no minors under the age of 18 are allowed whatsoever.  It is important to note that while material in the EX rating deals with adult-only material, it does not convey in any way, shape, or form that this content is considered obscene, in the legal definition of the term.  The excessive nature of language, nudity, sexuality, illegal drug abuse, and/or violence are such that only age-verified adults will have access to EX content.
