    Password has to be reentered

    I just updated both my contact email and password, and now the first login attempt always fails. The second login attempt, with the exact same password and the CAPTCHA, works.

    This is rather annoying, as I link my Xanga account with Ping.fm, and now I cannot update Ping.fm with the new password info because its attempt to sign in fails (and computers, unlike humans, cannot work around the error :P)

    If someone tries to incorrectly sign on to an account too many times, we'll put a CAPTCHA on that account for a short period of time for your protection. Actually, the CAPTCHA will usually only be from a particular IP address... we used to have a lot of problems with roommates hacking each other accounts.

    If you don't have any incorrect signins for a while, the CAPTCHA should go away?

    While we wait for it to be reset... is it possible that someone with access to your computer is trying to logon to your account?

    Nope, it was definitely just me. I might have tried it a bit too many times, though, especially since I was combining it with an email address change too.

    How long does the CAPTCHA period take? And the problem is that the first login appears to fail, with no notification that "you have attempted too many times", so it looked a bit odd to me.

    I can't remember the exact period of time... it's something like 12 hours or so.

    The reason the first signin always fails is that there's no CAPTCHA on the frontpage. Try signing in from here? The CAPTCHA should appear before your first signin, so you have a chance to fill it in:

    Sorry for the delay; I logged out, and tried going directly to the page you gave (which is the page one gets redirected after a login failure).

    Unfortunately, if you go there directly, the CAPTCHA is *not* displayed. There probably is an HTTP GET setting that can be set to force this to happen?

    In any case, since the problem is to get my Xanga account hooked up to Ping.fm, anything but the standard login would be pointless. Thus the late reply -- I made sure it's over twelve hours, and finally now I can post to Xanga from ping.fm again. Phew!
