• My 10 year old blog is GONE!

I've been reading through some of the questions and it looks like that only people that made contributions or had premium accounts are expected to get their old blog back?
If this is the case I'm going to be extremely upset! I didn't even know about any contributions, heck I didn't even know Xanga was changing like 'this'! I took a very long break from updating and when I finally decide to return and make a new entry I find all this confusing and frustrating stuff!
Please, PLEASE Xanga! I'm pretty much begging you, please return all my blog entries back! :(. All those entries really meant something to me, I wanted to use them all to write a autobiography about my fairly 'dark' past and how I fought to free myself! I was going to copy all my entries (10 years worth) down into a first draft book.

I just really hope updates are still being made and everything, please let me know what is going to happen to my very personal and irreplaceable blog :(.

  • Xanga just post

PLEASE READ IF YOUR SITE ISN'T SHOWING UP!

If your site is redirecting to a page that ends in "offline.aspx", then you may be experiencing a temporary routing issue that's affecting some users. If that's the case, then rest assured that we're working on the issue as we speak and hope to have it cleared up soon!

If your site is redirecting to the Xanga frontpage, then your site has yet to be migrated. This could have happened for one of three reasons:

    1) You weren't already premium at the time of the migration.
    2) You didn't contribute to our Relaunch Xanga campaign.
    3) You did contribute to the campaign, but we're still in the process of migrating your data (we'll be in touch soon).

If you are non-premium and are interested in contributing to our Relaunch Xanga campaign ($48/year), just post a message here and if we have blog archives stored for you, we'd be glad to contact you about the process for migrating your site!

So does this mean I'm still yet to get all my entries even though I didn't donate or was premium? Because if I do still get my entries I'll be so utterly thankful! I swear I'll donate and become a yearly member and everything!!!

  • Can you post a link to the topic we're supposed to reply to if we'd like to become a premium member? I'll be more than happy to pay the $48/year if I can get my blogs back. Heck, I'd even be willing to pay more.

  • Hi vvbutterflyvv, thank you for posting this. I think what they have done is deeply wrong. They are essentially holding our data hostage unless we pay a $48 fee. I have used this website for over ten years, and have had many different usernames, the equivalent, to me, of having many different notebooks, full of my memories and the documentation of my existence and my self and growth as a human being. I cannot afford to pay $48 for every one of my xanga accounts. I am interested in starting a change.org petition against xanga for doing this to their users. It's wrong. They should not 'own' our data and be allowed to hold it hostage and charge a fee. It's ridiculous.

  • i would be happy to join the change.org petition, theblueness. i don't think we should be forced into paying for our own entries without any forewarning. i've had my blog for 10 years and it has disappeared into thin air overnight.

  • vvbutterflyvv,

Where did you see that info posted on Xanga, about how to pay the $48 and request to migrate your site if you were non-premium??

I'm in the exact same boat- I have been a member of Xanga for over 10 years and would be devastated if all my blog entries were lost. They essentially document my entire adolescence from middle school through college and would be the equivalent of losing 10 years' worth of diaries. I would be more than willing to pay the $48 to get them back, but I am still very frustrated by it and how long it's taking Xanga to tell people how to do this.

  • I"ll join the petition too!!!!

  • Mine is gone too. Also 10 years worth of my life that I too hoped to someday do something with. So many details, memories, parts of me that I poured onto this website. For the past few months in order to keep up my posting in my very busy lifestyle, I began posting from the Xanga Iphone App. So, I was also completely unaware of the updates to the site, and now my blog is gone. I had trouble logging into my site with the app beginning yesterday so today tried on a computer...only to see all of this. I have been meaning to purchase Premium for the archive of my site anyways, and really hope it isn't too late. My xanga has recorded ten years of my lfe and growth that is so dear to me.

  • I agree with the complaints - SAME situation. There are probably thousands like us and I got NO WARNING about this change, and I'm on the site EVERY DAY. I support a petition against this virtual blackmail.

  • I read everything again and they said that IF you are not premium, not have you contributed, they have archived the data and can get it back to us "IF YOU'D LIKE". But there is no information provided as to how to request to get our data back. So essentially, Xanga says we can get it back but doesn't say how?

I would like my posts back. I'm not in power but if this goes on can someone who had power please take legal action against this nonsense.

I can quit the site whatever, just give me my old posts back.

  • Well maybe we just have to be patient and wait, I'll admit. However, if we really have to pay to get our blogs back, I've started a petition.

    https://www.change.org/petitions/xanga-2-0-putting-a-price-on-our-words-return-archives-to-classic-users-without-a-contribution-membership

    Please sign.

  • There was a warning but it sure wasn't global. I only found out via one of the people to whom I subscribed. The information was not sent to me directly by anyone at Xanga.
I also did not understand that ONLY premium members would have access. There are far too many blog spots out there to waste time fighting. I did archive and down load my entries.
I will miss my friends but am not interested in paying.

  • I just now managed to hack into my old teenage email address, in order to hunt down my Xanga profile name, in order to finally read those "lost years" of blogs I wrote when I started high school before jumping to LiveJournal. There were very BIG moments of life that I wanted to revisit. I'd like to reprint all my blog entries because as a teenager in the late 90s early 2000s, blogs became my diary. It wasn't about pen and paper anymore. I'd LOVE to get these back but I got redirected to that Xanga 2.0 page. It sucks and I'm hoping they didn't just delete everyone's stuff without any warning. PLEASE Xanga, help us get our memories back.

  • ALL of mine under ALL 3 of my usernames (BrooklynHeart, Mugzee, PlanetDream) are gone as well. They "claim" the archive saved them all and that's NOT true. The zip file contains TONS of comments, but not 99% of my blogs - as my blogs were always setup with code - I used code in all of my blogs (background, spacing, etc.) and NONE of them are in any of the archives in all 3 of my sites. Additionally, 2 of my sites (BrooklynHeart and Mugzee), which were my original, are missing EVERY SINGLE ONE OF MY PICTURES - PERSONAL PICTURES AND PERSONALLY MADE GRAPHIC ART. I'm devastated. I was an original Xangan, there from the very onset of the sight and shared not only an enormous part of my life through my posts - but also an enormous amount of poetry, writing and more. Xanga WAS IRRESPONSIBLE in NOT emailing out a mass email to EVERY SINGLE REGISTERED account to advise them of what was about to take place, giving everyone an opportunity to save their stories, writings, poetry, pictures and artwork. A part of my life, my heart - was stored on Xanga and they did NOTHING to ensure that I wouldn't lose it all. These are memories I cannot get back or replace. I need all 3 of my sites archived properly, with ALL of my posts, coded or not, available to me - all 3 of my sites to have EVERY picture and graphic available to me as well.

I can be contacted at KimberlyRoad@aol.com and would appreciate the professional courtesy, loyalty courtesy to an original Xangan and respect of hearing back from SOMEONE advising me that they are taking care of this for me - and where, and when I can find ALL of my stuff, under all 3 of my usernames, including pictures, blogs (coded or not), poetry, graphics, writing and more.
