Consolidating Blog Sites?
(Partly inspired by Paul_Partisan)
I think the new "Personal URL" feature is tremendous. I recently started a website/blog on my own URL and would love to be able to smoothly consolidate it with my long-standing base of subscribers on Xanga, without having to abandon Xanga or (as I'm currently doing) double-posting. Paul_Partisan suggested some kind of cross-platform compatibility with other blogging platforms such as Wordpress. (I have a self-hosted wordpress.org install, but I can see this possibly working with other popular platforms as well.) Here's how I'd like to see it work:
1. I create a blog post in just one place-- in my case, a Wordpress install on ericpazdziora.com. (Alternately, I create a blog on my Xanga and it still shows up in the one place I choose.)
2. Thanks to my fancy new Personal URL connecting with Xanga, the blog post shows up to all my Xanga subscribers (ideally under my username), as well as in the usual RSS feeds and the like from my website. On Xanga, clicking on the post to read, comment, or rec would take you to my URL, where you can (ideally) interact using your existing Xanga signin credentials-- no additional steps required.
3. All my Xanga friends/subscribers/readers can comment or recommend as usual. All my site readers will see it on the same page they're used to, with all the Wordpress bells and whistles and customizations. No double posts to drive down my site rankings; no need to lure my subscribers and friends away from our beloved Xanga. Everybody wins!
What do you think: possible or impossible? If even remotely possible, how can we make it happen?
(I'm sure somebody out there has the PHP skills to make a WP plugin that will cover it from that end...)
