• 10 Year Blog Gone

Please tell me that I will get my entire blog back (www.xanga.com/lilpuglet). My blog is so important to me and I was just logging on to purchase premium because I have been wondering when Xanga would update their software. But, clearly I am too late. I am now seeing that the software has been updated, and though I can log into my account, I do not see any of my past posts. I will happily pay for premium to ensure that I get my blog back, and that it is backed up and archived.

    Please help.

  • The reason I was unaware of the update is because I normally post from a cell phone app

    :(

  • Me too. I logged in to today to post a blog and noticed everything was gone :-(

  • I hope that everyone gets their blog back. My xanga is literally my life.

  • I had a panic attack too!! From what I can find, I think all xangas that have been active within the past 5 years are backed up and can be accessed if you upgrade. :)

  • Thank you SO much, I just contributed! I really hope it isn't too late and my old posts get transferred. This is the scariest thing ever! I have been posting everywhere looking for reassurance that it hasn't all been lost!

  • lilpuglet, doesn't seem to matter if you use a cell phone, a lap top or a desk top, many Xangans were not informed.
    It is heart breaking.
It is also extremely disgusting that NONE of the replies to ANY of the 27 pages of posts on this forum have been answered by Xanga itself.

  • Not spamming, just really need to get this petition around if we're going to start something and get xanga's attention!!

  • OMG. this is terrible. How can I get my blog back?!

  • Hey guys! I wanted to let y'all know that this happened to me too! All of my stuff is gone, however I did reach out to John who is in charge of letting everyone know what is going on.

John said that if you have been active you should be able to get your stuff back, however, premium and contributed people are priority and will be done first. I hope this helps! I will cry and scream if I don't get mine back.

    Fingers crossed!

  • Okay, so he said even those who haven't paid will eventually get their blogs back?

  • If you haven't paid or contributed, you may be able to obtain an archive upon request to Xanga (do not hold your breath on the amount of time this may take) and host it elsewhere. But you will not be able to blog on this site, unless you pay the fee.

  • I didn't get any damn notification about this?I kept several blogs and now they are all gone. Time to change the place to blog!

  • @cat_newlife - I have a Lifetime account (aka premium for life) and my posts are available, but my theme and photos are not yet available.

@cagey - Where does it say you need to pay to blog? From what I can tell, all they're saying is if you paid, it means that your blogs are being made available first. Everyone else will have to wait while they set up the free accounts.

  • @delphiki, Sure, it's very clear, and has been clear since May 30th. I quote the following:

    http://thexangateam.xanga.com/2013/05/30/relaunching-xanga-a-fundraiser/

"Because of this cost, we would have to move Xanga to a paid model, where bloggers pay for hosting for their blogs. (Just being a member of Xanga would still be free though, so others could still subscribe to your site.) We would enable our bloggers to pay in either money or time (through volunteering).

We would also include a gifting option, where you can buy a Xanga blogging membership for a friend… or earn one through volunteering, and gift that blogging membership to a friend.

Since blogging memberships would be paid, we wouldn’t have any ads on the blogs… giving our bloggers an ad-free experience"

This has been the pitch well understood by this community and has continued to be (has been further stated as such), and something we've been complaining about from the get-go. If you were a PREMIUM member, you will have to continue paying the new fee of $48 to blog. If you were a FREE member you will also now have to continue paying $48 to blog. If you DONATED, you're covered for ONE YEAR (depending on how much you 'donated'), after that you must continue to keep paying. If you were a LIFETIME or TRUE member, you have to also pay to blog (such contracts are no longer being honored). Since you are a LIFETIME member (or perhaps you donated?), your contract, to my understanding will be honoured for a period of time, before you too, will have to PAY the fee. This has been a source of anger and frustration for many individuals for months now.

The ONLY thing, that will be provided to ANYONE for free is an archived backup via a FILE, so that you can choose to keep it for your records or move to another hosting provider. OR you can choose to keeping blogging on Xanga by giving them the yearly payment. If you do not do so, you cannot blog on this service anymore. You will merely have an ACCOUNT, and can only comment and read those blogs who PAY for service.

  • The current happenings were well understood by a subset of the community. But it's quite obvious on this board that it was not understood by the community as a whole.
