I lost a post, where did it go?!

We work hard to prevent posts from being lost, but sometimes, it happens despite our best efforts. :-(

Here are a few options to try to save your post:

  1. Check your site. Open another browser window and see if your entry actually posted. Sometimes, your browser will return an error even though your post wasn't really lost.
  2. Use BACK button. If your browser window is still open, you may be able to retrieve your post by hitting the BACK navigation button on your browser.
  3. Manually copy-and-paste. It's always a good idea to copy your blog entry before submitting a post. That way, if your browser crashes or the Internet hiccups, you can just paste your entry into your browser again and post the entry.
  4. Auto copy to clipboard. You can click here and set your preferences to "Copy post to my clipboard when submitting." This will automatically save your posts to your clipboard when you submit a blog, so just paste the entry into your browser and post the entry again!
  5. Compose blog in another program. Some people write blog posts in client applications such as Notepad or BBEdit, to ensure their post doesn't get lost if a browser crashes.

Other things to consider:

  1. Check to make sure you still have an active Internet connection. High-speed DSL and cable modems can be flaky, and regular modems can drop all too frequently.
  2. Older browsers are notoriously buggy and crash frequently. If you use an old version of a browser, please upgrade!
  3. That said, please use a reliable browser. The latest build of Mozilla is very cool, but it's probably not the most stable browser in the universe and may be unusually prone to crashes. Our advice is to avoid writing long posts with any browser that's still in "beta".
  4. Please use a standalone browser. In particular, the Internet Explorer browsers built into MSN and AOL can behave oddly for no apparent reason. We recommend that even if you're connect to the Internet with these services, you should use Xanga using a standalone browser.
