I keep getting hacked! How can I secure my account?!

The best way to avoid getting hacked is to make sure your password, your email, and your computer are all secure.

YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT

First, you should either change the password on your email... or change the email address on your Xanga site!  This is in case the person bothering you has access to your email account:

YOUR PASSWORD:

The longer the password, the more secure it is.  Also, try not to use any word that's in the dictionary.  For example, "speakers" is a bad password - since it's in the dictionary.  Try adding numbers or combining two words: "speakers12" is a good password, and "myspeakers" is even better.

Once you've picked a secure password, it's time to change your password:

While we're on the subject of passwords, a few tips to keep in mind:

  • Please don't share your password with anyone
  • Please don't use the same password for your Xanga site and your email
  • Please don't use your birthdate or Social Security number as your password.

YOUR COMPUTER

Finally, make sure that you log off your Xanga site when you're done!  And also, please make sure that no one has access to your home computer!  It could be someone you know...  a roommate, a sibling, a friend.

Be very careful!
