I can't sign in - I keep getting asked for my password, and I know it's right?!

We've pulled together a list of the most common problems our users have when signing in:

Do you have cookies turned on?

If you are having trouble signing in, it may be because your browser does not accept cookies.  We've written up how to fix that here:

How do I accept cookies so that I can sign into Xanga?

Do you have the right username and password?

Hey, we all forget sometimes. Or even more likely, the caps locks or num locks keys are screwing up what you type. Be absolutely sure that what you type is in fact your correct username and password; you can retreive your username and password here just to double check:

Are you using Internet Explorer for the Mac?

Microsoft has stopped providing updates to the Internet Explorer browser for Macs. As a result, the IE browser for Macs is fairly outdated and does not work with Xanga.  We pulled together a list of browsers you can use for Macs that are free to download and use:

Clear your cookies

Sometimes you may just have some bad cookies that are causing issues. Clearing your cookies lets you start with a fresh copy. Clearing your cookies is usually an option in your browser's "Preferences" or "Internet Options" menu.

Does your computer have the date set correctly?

Believe it or not, if by some odd stroke of luck your computer has its date set waaaaaaay in the future (sometime later than 2037), you might have issues logging in when "remember me" is checked. We've taken all the necessary steps to insure this doesn't happen, but you might want to double check your date just to make sure.

Try the "remember me" option

When logging in, try checking the "remember me" checkbox. If this works, remember to logout of Xanga when you're done by clicking the "logout" link in the upper right corner.

Restart your browser

Sometimes browsers can get out of whack and retrieve incorrect cookie information. If you've been able to log in before and can't now, it is probably a browser issue. Try closing all instances of your browser, waiting a few seconds, and then starting it back up again.

Reboot your computer

Here it is: the good ole reboot. Sometimes even after closing and reopening your browser, your computer may still retain some faulty information that prevents you from logging in. Restarting your computer purges its memory and gives you a fresh copy of your browser. Yeah, we know, it's a lame solution, but hey -sometimes it works.
